Swimming Lee In-Kook finishes fourth in Para 200m freestyle

Lee In-guk (Sport Class S14-Anshan Market Athletic Association) failed to win a medal in the 100-meter freestyle, but he will be back in action in his main event, the 100-meter backstroke.


Lee touched the touchpad in fourth place with a time of 2:00.77 in the men"s 200m freestyle final at the Hangzhou 2022 Para-Asian Games at the Olympic Sports Center Swimming Pool in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China on Wednesday.


Gold went to Tang Wai-luk (HKR - 1:56.76), who set a new meet record.


Lee got off to a great start, finishing first in his heat (2:00.03). He led from the start of the race and got off to a great start, reaching the touchpad in first place.

 

Lee also finished second (27.09) in the 50m final. However, he dropped to third (57.69) after 100 meters. He remained in third place until the 150m (1:29.24), when he was overtaken by Wong Hong-yin (HKSAR - 2:00.64) in the final 10 meters and finished fourth by 0.12 seconds.


Although Lee finished fourth in the 200m freestyle on the day, she will be back in contention for gold in her main event, the 100m backstroke, on March 23.


Lee is unbeatable in the 100-meter backstroke on the Asian stage. He won gold in the 100-meter backstroke at the 2014 Incheon Games. At the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, he set a new Paralympic record and won gold.


Meanwhile, Park Soo-han (S8-Korean Air) finished sixth (5:12.44) in the men"s 400m freestyle final.


 

Jang Jong-yoon (S8-Seoul City Hall) finished sixth (2:50.18) in the men"s individual medley, also missing out on a medal.

 

Kwon Yong-hwa (Sport Class S10-Gyeonggi Para Sports Federation) finished sixth in the men"s 50m freestyle preliminaries, while Kang Jeong-jeong (Sport Class S14-Daegu Para Swimming Federation) and Lee Da-eun (S14-Korean Air) finished fifth and sixth in the women"s 200m freestyle preliminaries, respectively, and failed to qualify for the finals.


 

Head coach Bae Hyung-geun said, "Most of the swimmers competed in the side events today and improved their times. There are many athletes who will compete in the main events from tomorrow, such as Choi Ji-sung (freestyle) and Lee In-guk (backstroke). We will do our best to perform well."
